June 2006

18th June

Just finished watching the Croatia v Japan match which both sides needed to win. It was a draw. I thought there would be at least a goal or two.

At least the match was on ITV so the commentary wasn't too bad although with the digital red button facility on BBC it's great to watch matches with radio 5 commentary so you don't have to listen to the pathetic John Motson and the boring Mark Lawrenson.

Later in the day Brazil v Australia produced a couple of goals with Australia going down 2-0. They were unable to reproduce a comeback like they did against Japan and now need to avoid defeat against Croatia (assuming Japan don't beat Brasil) to qualify for the next round. Again the game was on ITV so although the commentary wasn't the best (why do the commentators think the viewers know nothing) it was better than anything the BBC offer at the moment. Why they have to name who the players play for after each pass (Carlos of Real Madrid. Kewell of Liverpool etc.) is beyond me.

France manage to score a goal at last but can only draw with South Korea. The French seem to prove that many good players do not make a good team.

20th

Germany have just beaten Ecuador to win their group.

The second ODI is on between England and Sri Lanka and thankfully I've not heard David Lloyd today although I've only been flicking it on during the football.

Having said that England lost - again. I thought Jones was supposed to make some runs.

22nd

England win their group thanks to a 2-2 draw against Sweden, lucky they took Walcott in case a striker got injured.
